World Studies
Welcome to World Studies! This is a survey course of world history, starting with a brief review of world religions and will move onward from Medieval Times through the World War II. Students will be provided with practical knowledge and learn what it means to think historically and apply all information in a global context. Students will apply material learned through exercises in critical thinking, group/individual activities, and experiences in effective writing techniques that will form students into responsible citizens and give them skills that can be used for the rest of their lives. You will be challenged to understand historical events, but also to put yourself in the place of the people who lived in the past and think about different ways of thinking, different ways of viewing the world, and different ways of living. You are responsible for learning specific historical content and for making your own connections to historical periods and world regions.
Course Objectives
1. Demonstrate knowledge of basic geography
2. Identify the major economic and political systems
3. Compare the classical ages of major cultural groups
4. Discuss briefly the history of major world religions
5. Complete some independent research projects that relate to world history
